When you hear the word “royalty” you immediately think, lavish jewels, elegant fashion, butlers, maids, the lap of luxury. But Prince William Duke of Cambridge doesn’t always tie himself to the glamourous lifestyle befitting a royal. 4 months after his graduation from college, at the age of 23, William worked at the Chatsworth House, where he made sausage rolls and mince pies.

Princess Diana took great care in the development of her children, raising them to be royal but also to have a love and understanding for the common folk. One way to do that is to jump right in and experience common life first hand.

In Chatsworth: The Housekeeper’s Tale, by Christine Robinson, Robinson describes how William interacted with fellow staff. “He spent a week dressed in overalls, drinking tea and eating fish and chips with the rest of the housemen and joiners.”

She continued, “The look on visitors’ faces was priceless, most obviously thought to themselves, ‘That joiner is the double of Prince William.”

Prince William is now 32, almost ten years later, he is married and expecting his second child with former common wife and now future Queen, Kate Middleton.
