Real Life Forrest Gump Tries to Run Across the US within 100 Days

Forrest Gump was the famous film from the 90’s that made Tom Hanks as popular as ever. In the film, Forrest Gump, the titular character played by Hanks runs across the United States of America with a cohort of people who follow him.

One such man named Barclay Oudersluys, decided to mimic what Hanks did in this Oscar winning film. The man from Michigan decided to run across the United States of America within a hundred days flat.

Oudersluys said,

“I decided if Forrest Gump could run across the country, I could do it too.” The 23 year-old man is running from the Santa Monica Pier in California to Maine at the Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, just like in the movie.

Apparently, Oudersluys runs about 33 miles or 53 kilometres a day. This distance is much longer than what a normal marathon runner would complete. This nuclear engineering student from the University of Michigan wants to complete his run by the 16th of August before he starts law school at the University of Berkeley.

This real life Gump will be crossing about 14 states while he covers a distance of more than three thousand miles. Oudersluys is trying to raise $10,000 for the Hall Steps Foundation charity that helps eradicate global poverty. The money he will raise will go towards building a well in Mozambique.

Insane! I couldn’t imagine running that long for ONE day.. Forrest Gump IS just a movie so he really didn’t run that far but I wonder if this man will be able to do it. Shout out to Michigan though 🙂
