Rebel Wilson Staring in ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ Remake

MGM has released a statement, saying that Rebel Wilson, The Pitch Perfect Star, is going to be playing a lead role in their Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake.

The 1988 classic comedy previously starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine, which told a story about two cons trying to swindle money from a wealthy heiress. The 1988 film was directed by Frank Oz and produced by Bernard Williams. The 1988 movie was originally remade from the 1964 film Bedtime Story, which starred Marlon Brando and David Niven. Due to the 1988 Dirty Rotten Scoundrels grossing over 42 million dollars in the United States alone, the film was adapted into a successful musical in 2005.

The new Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake is going to switch the previous storyline around. Wilson is expected to be one of the two con women who are going to swindle money from a wealthy tech executive. There has been no indication who or when an actress will be cast as Wilson’s co-star.

The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake is going to be produced by Roger Birnbaum, who works for Pin High Productions. The script is being written by Jac Schaeffer even though he has yet to produce the final draft of the screenplay. Along with Birnbaum, Rebel Wilson is also expected to produce the film. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is still in its early development phase and has yet to attach a director to the project.

Wilson is also set to star in another comedy remake Private Benjamin that previously starred Goldie Hawn. Private Benjamin is also in the developmental phases of the project and is also supported by the Mark Gordon Company.

Rebel Wilson recently starred in the romantic comedy How To Be Single, which featured an ensemble cast with Dakota Johnson. Wilson is also expected to be revisiting her role as “Fat Amy” in the third Pitch Perfect film. Pitch Perfect 3 is expected to enter theaters on December 17th 2017.
