Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are rumored to be negotiating a part in Disney’s new adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time” film. The new film is set to have Oprah Winfrey as one of the leading actresses and Ava DuVernay as the director.
Jennifer Lee, who is known for writing and co-directing the hit Disney film Frozen, is trying to get the adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s popular novel on Disney’s production slate. A Wrinkle of Time storyline follows kids who are determined to travel through time and visit outlandish worlds to find their missing scientist father.
Witherspoon might possibly play Mrs. Whatsit in the film, who is a former celestial being that looks like an old frail woman. Mindy Kaling is also looking into playing a part as Mrs. Who, who is known for quoting literature in the novel. Kaling and Witherspoon might join Oprah Winfrey, who has already been cast to play Mrs. Witch in the film.
A Wrinkle in Time is the first book in Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quartet series. The series includes three other books named A Wind in the Door, Many Waters, and A Swiftly Tilting Planet.
Jennifer Lee is expected to write the adapted screenplay for the new film. Lee is also set to have Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand to join the new Disney project as fellow producers.
Reese Witherspoon has recently wrapped up filming for the HBO production of Big Little Lies and is also expected to start filming for Home Again this upcoming fall season.
Mindy Kaling’s show The Mindy Project is set to premiere it’s fifth season on Hulu this fall. Kaling is also reportedly still prepping for her role in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven reboot film, Ocean’s Eight.
Even though ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ is still in the developmental phase of the film project, the film has reportedly been set to premiere in theaters on April 16th, 2018.
