A sturdy, well-organized luggage that comfortably fits in your hand and rolls up is essential for
stress-free travel. Away is one of the most well-known travel brands, particularly for its chic,
hardside carry-on luggage. The company completely redesigned its bags in August 2023,
adding modern colors and valuable features like a grabhold beneath the wheels. Whether Away
is worth the hype arises as the brand’s luggage continues to gain popularity.
As an analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, I have personally examined
dozens of travel-related products, ranging from carry-on luggage and smart suitcases to hard-
side luggage and travel backpacks. After putting the Away carry-on through our demanding
laboratory evaluations, which included an obstacle course to gauge wheel performance and
maneuverability and the use of specialized equipment to assess water and scratch resistance, I
was astounded by this bag’s remarkable lightweight, scratch resistance, ease of
maneuverability, and ability to fit everything in our packing tests. In fact, according to our list of
the top luggage brands for 2024, it took first place for carry-on bags.
Away luggage: what is it?
Brand Away specializes in travel gear and offers a range of items such as weekender bags,
packing cubes, backpacks, and checked baggage. Since most people already own portable
chargers, Away has ceased selling battery packs and luggage. The brand gained notoriety first
for its carry-on, including a removable battery that allowed you to charge your phone while on
the road.
The two most well-liked products from the brand are the Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On; they
are identical in terms of construction and functions but come in two distinct sizes. The brand’s
regular carry-on luggage now has a slightly greater packing capacity and weighs a bit more than
the previous model, thanks to the most recent upgrade to its luggage range. To determine
whether purchasing Away luggage is worthwhile, I tested the new standard carry-on in the
Textiles Lab. I took advantage of the larger carry-on on a recent trip.
