High-end Japanese skincare company SK-II is beloved by many a celebrity (Katie Holmes, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Bosworth are all known lovers of the brand) for its moisture-rich, anti-aging skincare. One of the brand’s most sought after products are their cotton facial masks. From the Facial Treatment Mask (which costs a cool $135 for ten masks), to the Brightening Source Derm Revival Mask ($175 for ten sheets), the SK-II facial masks are richly formulated with Pitera—hence their above-average pricing.

What is Pitera, you may ask? According to the SK-II website, Pitera is “a clear liquid rich in vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids… that work to dramatically improve the skin’s natural surface rejuvenation process.” Why would this be important to skincare? Well, for one thing, the more cell turnover you have (something that gradually decreases with age), the more likely it is that your skin will stay smooth, evenly toned, and less prone to wrinkling.

While these two masks, both saturated in Pitera, are kind of scary looking, the ingredients are definitely brow-raisers. Just smooth them onto your face after cleansing and toning (essential steps for women of every age), and wait five to fifteen minutes before removing. The steep price tag, yes, definitely puts these on the splurge end of your budget—but hey, that’s what holidays are for, right? We think so. Would you ever consider testing out the SK-II facial masks, or will you stick to mashing up the half-ripe avocado in your fridge?
