Sebastian Pons’s Gender Neutral, One-Size-Fits-All Collection

Since leaving the New York scene about 15 years ago, Sebastian Pons has essentially kept a low-key presence in the fashion world.

Having launched his namesake brand in 2003, Pons is known as somewhat of a fashion rebel. Much as the likes of Alexander McQueen and Miguel Adrover, whom Pons worked with prior to launching his own brand. However, having closed his label in 2008, Pons has been exploring numerous other fields of the fashion world. His adventures range from such as commissions to design practical gear for the military and as well as teaching classes in design at the Istituto Europeo di Design.

However, the designer, who is now based in Barcelona, has emerged once again, this time with a line that is just as revolutionary as it is impressive. Pons held a fashion show in Majorca, showcasing his line of one-size-fits-all gender neutral clothing for his collection, Muchache.

When asked about what inspired him to embark on the line he said “People were always telling me ‘Your clothes are too expensive and only fit perfect bodies,’ so it was always at the back of my mind to create a line with broader appeal, and I saw a gap in the market of fluid-gender clothing.”

The line has reportedly gotten good reviews, particularly for its body inclusiveness and its use of sustainable materials. Overall, although this is being viewed as Pons’s return to the fashion world, the designer refuses to follow the established rules: “I’m on my own, and I’m not following the regular seasons followed by the fashion system. The strong season for Muchache will be the Summer season that inspired it, but I want to develop and adapt shapes for the winter season as well…I want to establish multifunctional styles for the next season and go back to the idea that a garment stays in your wardrobe for more than one season.”

Proud Latina Feminist. My likes include strong coffee, watching the previews that come on before the movie, and things that come in pretty packages. I've been a bibliophile and fashion lover since well before I could read or tie my own shoes.
