Shrimps Resort 2017: Doodles Hit the Runway

Hannah Weiland channels her inner child for this year’s Shrimps Resort Collection.

Her designs scream of a more lighthearted Cruella Deville, offering playful fur, posh pastels and Weiland’s very own spare time doodling. Weiland’s free time doodling, completed during office meetings and in the designer’s spare time, has made its way into the lining of the garments and a few trims here and there on the fur coats.

Matisse was also a major influence for the collection as Weiland’s doodling pattern work was inspired by Matisse’s own cutout work. “I thought to myself, ‘You can’t reference Matisse’ again, but I love his work so much, it’s so varied in shapes and colors,” Weiland tells WWD.

The collection features pink pastels in both a fur-fringed coat with match bell sleeves and culotte pants that reach the top of matching lace-up booties. A cheetah pea coat is trimmed with a baby blue fur collar. An abstract leopard print coat meets red leather gloves and bewitching white boots, fit for a fairy tale villain. The leather jacket is given an updated empire waist design with, of course, the collection’s signature fur collar.

Each piece is both fresh and childlike, while still tinged with elements of demure and mystery. Much like a child’s imagination, the Shrimps collection envisions a world of its very own.
