This is the season for haircuts. Not only are haircuts a way to ring in the new season with a new look, but they also lighten a load. Some of summer’s most popular cuts are shoulder lengths, bobs or lobs and pixie cuts. A shoulder length style with long layers is perfect for chipping off split ends and damaged hair while still allowing you to style your mane in an assortments of up-do’s. Bobs or lobs –longer version of the bob- are other strong options that provide hair with a sense of featherweight agility. Besides, the shorter on the back and longer in the front style gives bobs and lobs a fashion forward air. There’s also the pixie cut, bringing the mod 60s to the 21st century. The pixie can be sophisticated, feminine and edgy. This haircut is considered as more daring than the other but it is also one of the most efficient –quick and easy to style, and keeps hair away from your face and neck. The latest notable celeb to sport the pixie oh-so-well is Shailene Woodly, who proves that the look is both sleek and youthful.

For those with long hair trying to avoid scissors, waves are one of the favored hairstyles for summer. Considering that in summer’s heat a straightening iron is practically useless –and you’ll be at the beach or pool too often to have to care about straightening- wavy hair will give you an alluring earthy natural vibe. Although not as easy to obtain as they may seem at first, try braiding damp hair, twisting hair in several sections or swift twirls with a curling iron –there are several simple methods for achieving the wavy look. This mermaid hair will have you beach, dinner, movie, hike and dancing ready.

Styling hair in an up-do is perhaps the most common, yet still creative, approach to hot weather. First off, there are the numerous ways to braid all your hair or incorporate braids into loose hair. Try the crown braid –split hair in half and create two low braids then pin them up over your head. You can also just leave the two braids down for braided pigtails. The French braid is classic, or you can spice it up by going fishtail style. Cornrows could have you channeling Bo Derek on the shore or a loose side braid could have you reminiscing about Princess Jasmine’s do. Ponytails are another easy option that only require a hair band –try to use something that won’t go on too tight to avoid marking and damaging your hair. These can be used in several ways –high, sideways in 80s fashion or slicked back. Braids and ponytails are great but do not forget about the bun during these coming months. Low and sleek, high topknot –a la Beyonce- or messy, the bun is one of hair’s favored styles because it physically contains hair from all angles. In several of these up-do’s a few loose strands or a tousled appearance could add to your summery vibe.

If you are looking to change up your hair color, try to think outside of simply going lighter. This is not for everyone, but for those not afraid to take a little risk with dye, the summer is the perfect time to add extra color to your life. Case in point: Hilary Duff. The actress has experienced both green and purple within this past month alone –and she looks amazing in both. Nicole Ritchie and Kelly Osborne have also famously rocked colorful manes –a light silvery purple on Osborne and Ritchie with her ever-changing locks has most recently settled on pink. Perhaps you would enjoy taking a bold cue from these ladies.
