Singer Shawn Mendes Heads to ‘The 100’ for “Unique” and “Special” Role

The 100 is by far one of the greatest shows to ever hit CW. The characters are what drive the show beyond great expectations, and throwing them into the alternate, futuristic universe executive producer Jason Rothenberg created makes it a must see television series.

Fans will be introduced to a new character next season, played by the highly popular recording artist Shawn Mendes. Does this mean there will be a musical episode? Or a musical interlude, similar to the American Horror Story: Asylum ‘lana banana’ bombshell? Fans of the artist will surely be hoping for at least a few minutes of musical airtime.

Mendes has had an extraordinary year after a successful No. 1 debut album, a tour with Taylor Swift and his own sold-out headlining tour.

“Shawn is a big fan of the show, and reached out to me on Twitter about potentially working together,” executive producer Jason Rothenberg told E! News. “He’s a very talented artist, and we knew we wanted to do something special and different for the premiere. Shawn gave us a unique opportunity and I can’t wait for our fans to see our collaboration.”

What we do know so far about his 100 character is that he will debut in the season 3 premiere. He will be playing a scrappy young Ark survivor who’s in a sticky situation and uses his talents to get out of it. Will that talent be singing?

We’ll have to wait until next year to find out. There is no official premiere date, however we can expect to be sitting on our couches and huddled under a blanket with popcorn watching our favorite sci-fi show sometime in the first half of 2016.
