Picture this: A pair of crisp white trousers, the kind that is slightly loose but accentuates all the right places, cuffed just above the ankles. It is paired with Nike sneakers (gasp!) in a bright red color; the kind that is lean and made for running. Completing the outfit is a simple white button down shirt that lies loosely under a hip grazing black wool coat. Ensembles such as this have been making themselves seen in the catalogs for several high fashion stores and on the frames of fashion aware individuals going about their daily routines.

Fewer stilettos have been gracing city streets, their places taken by smart loafers, elegant flats, and yes, sneakers. Sports brands such as Nike have taken advantage of the trend by revamping their inventory to include more stylish silhouettes and pressing colors that can be worn for exercise as well as regularly. This trend doesn’t end at street fashion by any means. Flats and slippers have been heating up runways across the globe like in Oscar de la Renta’s spring 2014 line.

This new trend proves that the best accents to any look are confidence and comfort. To make an outfit work, the person wearing it has to carry themselves with a demeanor that what they’re wearing is highest of fashion and if they are uncomfortable, one won’t be able to do that. Whether it’s skin tight jeans, extra high heels, or a t-shirt and skirt, the most important thing is that clothing portrays what the wearer wants it to, and not a prepackaged idea that they feel uncomfortable representing.
