You heard us right. Fendi is mobilizing. And in a cherry-red truck!
The Italian luxury designer is introducing us to their newest pop-up concept just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. They’re calling it the Fendi Ape car. Now, if you’re like us, we know what you’re thinking. What the heck is an ape car?
The design of Fendi’s latest endeavor is fittingly inspired by an Italian, three-wheeled truck. The ape car was first manufactured by the motor vehicle company, Piaggio, in 1948 at their headquarters in Pontedera, Italy.
Fendi’s adaptation of the design meshes an old aesthetic with a modern concept, the mobile store. As the Fendi Ape car travels across America, the truck will sell the brand’s most iconic pieces. WWD reports that Fendi’s classic ‘DotCom’ handbag, the ‘Strap You’ bag straps and the ABC fur charms will all be mobilized and ready for sale.
Where is its first rest stop? The Hamptons, of course. The truck will park right outside the kickoff celebration at the Surf Lodge this coming Saturday. After leaving New York, the cart will head to Philadelphia next and then back up to Toronto for the International Film Festival. Fendi’s car will make its way over to Los Angeles for the Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic in October before gassing out in Miami for the Art Basel in December.
