Stella McCartney always shows her pre-collection in New York. While many other designers choose exotic location to host their previews, McCartney brought Cuba to the concrete jungle.
The event took place on Monday night in Nolita at a garden on Elizabeth St. How did the designer set the Cuban mood? With colorful streamers, stilt performers, rum cock tails, cigars being served on trays, and a salsa band. There were even Che Guevara impersonators playing dominoes.
Guest at the event included Cara Delevingne, Alexa Chung, Liv Tyler, and Miranda Kerr. According to Fashionista, everyone seemed to be enjoying the mini Cuban vacation.
The collection itself was Caribbean inspired. There were long flowing dresses with feminine ruffles in bright colors. There were also more structured mens-wear inspired pieces with prints of flowers and wild horses. The accessories were fun and playful, with a pop-art like effect. There were star prints and what looked like hand painted flowers on bags and shoes.
