Fashion never takes a break on the FIT campus in NYC. Even when temperatures are a paralyzingly cold forty degrees (and winds are raging powerful enough to make even the strong shudder in their—designer—boots), FIT students are always outfitted in their favorite sweaters, coats, and accessories any (chilly) day of the week. Here are our favorite street style looks from this Friday!
While of course black (the palate cleanser of any outfit) would be trending on campus (from overcoats, to slashed jeans, to Chelsea boots), beanies (both plain and bejeweled), velvet (of all shades and styles), and layering (I mean, you gotta stay warm!) were all big with this Friday morning’s co-ed crew.
Erica, an Italian student here in NYC to study English, rocked a black and white ensemble—which she punctuated with various textures like chiffon and velvet. Allie, also draped in a (vintage!) velvet overcoat—this time in a rich garnet shade—said, “My mom got it when she was pregnant with me!” How cool is that?

Another big trend (as per usual in the winter wardrobe world) we saw was the camel coat. Michelle (left), who went classic in a light camel color with a fur-trimmed (very retro) collar, paired hers with a topknot, white chunky scarf, and fingerless black gloves—showing you that mixing neutrals isn’t as scary as you’d think. Student Aubrie (right) opted for a more menswear-inspired silhouette, in a darker camel color. She also paired hers with a chunky scarf (this time gray) and black ankle boots.

Davian, with a penchant for accessories (and a fierce modeling pose), layered like a pro with his floppy Brixton hat, tasseled loafers, and cozy-as-anything knit sweater. A+

Madeline effortlessly pulled off a seventies-inspired fur coat, neon, bejeweled beanie and sheer black tights—all in one packed-with-punch outfit (and it wasn’t even noon yet).

Mariah, sporting a gray snapback and (insanely cool) black, woven leather backpack, nailed jet-set style—and could easily copy this look when traveling. No more baggy sweats at the airport, starting now!

Dora, sophisticatedly dressed up her dark coat and tights with buckled Roger Vivier heels, “They were a present!” she says thankfully.
