What better way to take care of your skin than to know that you’ve used natural products and that you were able to do it in your own home? It’s actually quicker and simpler than you may think. What you’ll need:
- Granulated sugar (white or brown)
- Unscented liquid body wash
- A bowl and spoon
- Your choice of oil; Baby Oil or Olive Oil give the best results.
- Fragrance oil (optional)
Simply mix 1 cup of sugar and 1/3 cup of the unscented body wash in a bowl, thoroughly. As you mix the two together, pour in 1/4 cup of your chosen oil, with a dash of your optional scented oil, until you’ve created a think pasty substance. You’ve now created a simple, all-natural skin exfoliate that is ready for body scrubbing.
Why sugar? Sugar is humectant – this means that it draws the moisture from the environment. Therefore, when you apply to your face, it takes that moisture and brings it into your skin, keeping it hydrated. Sugar is also a natural Glycolic acid. It helps break down what binds your skin together, allowing quicker cell regeneration, which in turn gives you fresher skin a lot sooner than your body would typically produce.
Lastly, since sugar has a small, grainy texture, it can be used to scrub off the dead skin cells.
Next time you have an itching for sugar, try making a topical skin paste! You may not want a higher sugar diet, but using sugar as a skin ‘exfoliator’ just once a week can give you some sweet, healthier looking and well refreshed skin.
