Syfy Casts Lead Actor for Superman Prequel Series ‘Krypton’

Syfy has officially cast the lead actor for their new Superman prequel series Krypton. British actor Cameron Cuffe has been cast to play Seg-El, which is one of Superman’s ancestors in the popular DC comics universe.

In the new series, Cuffe’s character is a Kryponian from a prosperous family, who is blessed at birth with intelligence for all things technical. Although his family has fallen from grace in the Kryptonian caste system and he has to live as a member of the lowest level of the social system.

The actor who originates from London has recently been seen in Florence Foster Jenkins, which starred Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. Cuffe also has a reoccurring role in ITV’s drama series The Halcyon. Cuffe graduated at Ireland’s National Academy of Dramatic Art and also appeared in a Park Theater production of The Vertical Hour play that was written by David Hare.

David S. Goyer, who wrote the screenplay to Batman Begins, Man of Steel, and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, is an executive producer for Syfy’s Krypton. Goyer and Ian Goldberg co-wrote the new Syfy show’s pilot episode. Damian Kidler and Colm McCarthy, who is expected to direct the pilot episode, also act as executive producers.

The Superman characters are based on Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s DC comic heroes. Syfy’s Krypton is produced by Warner Horizon and David S. Goyer’s Phantom Four production studio.

Cameron Cuffe is expected to star alongside Georgina Campbell, who is set to play a character who is a member of General Zod’s clan, who is one of Superman’s arch nemesis. Cuffe and Campbell are reportedly set in the Krypton TV series storyline to be star-crossed lovers.

Superman seems to be a growing craze within the superhero genre shows on many different television netowrks, with CW’s Supergirl adding Tyler Hoechin as Clark Kent aka Superman for the show’s second season a month ago.

Syfy has only ordered the pilot episode for Krypton, but Superman enthusiasts are hoping the network will approve more episodes for the series in the near future.
