They say history repeats itself. We have definitely seen that proven in recent runway shows as many designers paid tribute to the classic 90’s trends. We can’t seem to let go of the grunge look of the decade past: crop tops, high-waisted shorts, acid wash denim, over-sized flannel, and combat boots.
To bring back the grunge, we recommend:
Over-sized flannels: Try looking in the mens section of the thrift store. They are already worn out, which adds extra comfort. Go a size or two up so you can pair with a t-shirt and leggings.
Acid wash denim: Who said mom jeans weren’t cool? Many stores sell jeans that are already acid washed, or you can opt to make your own with bleach. It’s a really simple way to achieve the look you want. Try: Levis, Etsy, Thrift stores, or JCPenny.
Dark lips: This classic trend is seeing a comeback. Purple, dark red and black lips. This look is sexy and mysterious. It adds flare to any outfit. Try: Givenchy Le Rouge in Deep Red, Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Rich Wine, or Smashbox Be Legendary in Plum Scene- Burgundy Plum.
Smoky eye: There is something mysterious and sexy about a smoky eye. Dark charcoal eyeliner on your top lid with light gray accentuated with dark grey in the crease of your eyelid. Top it off with black in the corner of your eyelid, and blend with a brush. To highlight this look, you can brush white eyeshadow under your eyebrows. Some products even have the color labeled of where to put each color to make creating the perfect smoky eye easier for you. Try: Maybelline Eye Studio Master Smoky Long-wearing Shadow Pencil in Black Smoke or Maybelline Expert Eye Shadow Trios in Impeccable Greys.
Combat boots: Perfectly paired with leggings and an over-sized flannels. Try: Doc Martens.
High-waisted shorts: For those of us with long legs, high-waisted shorts are perfect for accentuating our best feature, and slimming our waists. Plus, they look good with any shirt tucked in. Try a vintage Harley Davidson tee, or a pajama shirt. Try: Levi’s, Etsy, or Forever 21.
