The Paleo Diet has recently become popular as carbs continue to play the devil and vegetables are still boring and watery. What, in fact, is this diet? The Paleo diet takes humans back to our primal eating days, when nuts, seeds, meat, and few vegetables were available for consumption. This is a high-protein/fat, with low-to-zero carbs diet. The high fat part sounds daunting for many, however the Paleo restrictions seem to promise better skin, better energy, and health overall.

For those who consider bread, bagels, and, above all, cereal, to be major foods not worth abandoning for a hamburger, the Paleo diet may not be the best option. It is worth considering for the carb and sweet addicts of the world who may need a break from their routine.

One major downfall of the Paleo diet is giving up snacking. Office candy, granola bars, and most sugary desserts are often substituted as quick and easy snacks in the afternoon. Even yogurt isn’t technically allowed. It is assumed that with enough protein during lunch, one would be able to last until dinner. After all, ancient man never had Special K in times of desperation.

The Paleo diet may cause better awareness of how we eat. With such heavy restrictions, we are better able to concentrate on exactly what goes into every meal, including all the unnecessary elements like butter (butter isn’t a part of the Paleo diet unless grass-fed). The diet lends itself better to some people over others, but as a trending food plan, the Paleo diet at least lets everyone have a great steak.
