Students from the Fashion Institute of Technology and Laboratory Institute of Merchandising were seen in the windows of Saks, dressing their mannequins as part of the third-annual Student Window Challenge.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, it was part of a competition between FIT and LIM. It was held in the Saks Fifth Avenue store, and ran all day.

There were six teams and each of them had to create the best window display design. In order to win, the requirements were that the contestants used props that were white, and the design created for the mannequins had to be based off of contemporary fashion.

The winners of the contest were Meredith Christensen Jennings and Linda Gjolaj from FIT.

They were judged by Matt Reed, the Vice President of Visual Merchandising, and Alison Embrey Medina, the Executive Editor of Design: Retail Magazine, a publication that covers the retail design industry.

The two winners are given a day to study under Saks Fifth Avenue’s visual staff, and they also receive a $500 gift card to Saks.

Christensen Jennings told WWD, “We knew from the get-go what we wanted to do. We barted with other people to get the right materials.” Their strategy paid off as they created a “double-height white fringe and a fringe canopy set off the clothes.”

Afterwards there was an after party, where the winners were given awards for their achievements.
