It is official, after an altercation on the Criminal Minds set, Thomas Gibson has been fired from the long running CBS show. He has been a series regular for the procedural drama for over eleven years as FBI profiler Aaron Hotchner.
ABC studio’s, which is an active producer of Criminal Minds show, released a statement about how the actor has been dismissed from the show. After an altercation with an unnamed writer/producer of the show, Gibson was suspended from the set for two weeks. Although ABC studios doesn’t seem want Gibson’s rowdy behavior around their other employees anymore. The news hit the media one day after his suspension was announced.
Even though Gibson commented that he regretted the altercation occurred, it seemed like it wasn’t enough to CBS and ABC studios. He also commented that he had a creative difference with the on set writer/producer of Criminal Minds, but does this mean he is just a passionate actor who wants to make the best show possible?
Since his suspension, more details about the altercation have leaked out on the internet. Apparently, Gibson kicked the Criminal Mind’s writer/producer when they got into an argument over a new script. He had to be reprimanded from the set and since then claims that he was just acting “passionate”.
Gibson had a prior altercation on the CBS set with an assistant director and was forced to go through anger management counseling before returning to Criminal Minds. I guess the first fight was forgiven because he went through counseling, but with the second fight, the studio wasn’t willing to forgive another incident again.
During the Television Critic’s Awards, CBS presented two new series regulars Aisha Tyler and Adam Rodriguez to the Criminal Minds set. It was evident during the CBS annual fall celebration held after the TCA press conference that Gibson was not invited.
ABC studios and CBS has not yet released any creative details on how they plan to exit Gibson’s character Aaron Hotchner from the show. They also claim that they will release new information about his exit at a later date.
Criminal Minds is set to premiere on CBS September 28th.
