Top 3 Shows To Binge-Watch This Summer

Although summer is the best time of year to spend outdoors, let’s be honest; sometimes you just need a day, (or four), to lay under the covers, close your blinds, and watch TV. Then, you ask yourself, what do I watch? You’ve already gotten through all your friend’s recommendations and it seems as though you’ve seen everything on Netflix – or have you? As a TV junkie, I’ve had my fair share of those moments when I didn’t know what was left to watch. I’ll share with you some of my all time favorite shows, new and old, that you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from this summer.

1. The 100

This CW sci-fyi action-adventure show is packed with a little something for everyone. An apocalypse-torn Earth forced the human race to move to space, but when their home, the Ark, is starting to run low on oxygen, they send one hundred of their juvenile delinquents to the ground to see if it is livable. What I think makes this show stand out from other “dystopians” out there are the characters; you can’t help but admire and respect the two leads, Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffin, as well as the rest of the cast. They all have incredibly well thought out back stories that really hit home for viewers. The first season is available for viewing on Netflix, and as the second season ended earlier this year, it should shortly follow. This is a definite must-see, and the third season is set to premiere in mid-2016.

2. Outlander

If you haven’t heard of, or seen Outlander yet, you need to stop what you’re doing immediately. This romantic drama is set in two time periods; the 1940s and the eighteenth century. It is based on the incredibly popular book series by Diana Gabaldon, which she’s still currently still writing books for – so if you enjoy reading, this is a great series to start, as there’s much to look forward to. In short, the main character, Claire, travels through time to the eighteenth century Scottish highlands, where she meets the charming Jamie Fraiser. As she tries to get back to her own time and back to her husband Frank, she encounters many obstacles – specifically with her husband’s relative who is an unbelievably cruel soldier for the English army. Of course, there is a love triangle, but you will have to watch and see who Claire chooses in this fantastic Starz original series.

3. Merlin

The classic tale of Merlin is spiced up in this family friendly BBC series. What’s even better, it’s a completed series, composed of five seasons, meaning you won’t have to wait for more after you finish watching all the episodes on Netflix. However, you are going to wish there was more to come because it is such an enjoyable show to watch! Merlin and Arthur team up to save Camelot from evil magic, plagues, and much more. What begins as a light hearted, fun story, becomes more twisted and dark, bringing difficult subjects to light and a much more intense plot line. This would be a great show to watch with your family, as there is plenty to laugh at, yet also concepts that you will be debating and talking through with one another.
