However, the part that should be most exciting for fans of the original film is that Tom Cruise may star in the sequel as well. The actor, who is now 52 years-old, may retain his original role of “the Maverick.”

David Ellison, who is the CEO of Skydance said that,

“There is no ‘Top Gun’ without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick. It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters… It’s really exploring the end of an era of dog fighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today.”

Only time will tell if Cruise will actually be in the film or not and if he will indeed reprise his role well.
