Ombre and long beachy ripples are taking a backseat this season in favor of some more ornate hairstyles. Designers this season appear to be taking their inspiration from the classics, with subtle details like texture changes, and pretty touches like flowers and gold.
John Galliano and Ferragamo both paid particular attention to texture, keeping the top part of the hair smooth and combed down, transitioning into silkier waves. Giles and Rachel Zoe both included the old world braid in their collections, keeping them relaxed and extra messy, while Elie Saab was master of the secret gold detail. Ponytails gained a new wow factor at Missoni and Valentino, and floral arrangements became haute couture at Anna Sui and Dolce & Gabbana.
 Traditional Braid
Romantic and loose, this deviation from the older plait is reminiscent of a Renaissance lady heading to the market, attempting to keep her long locks controlled. The braid is not meant to look particularly clean, as Rachel Zoe keeps hers almost frizzy.
Gold Detail
This kind of gold isn’t found on a headpiece, although we’re certainly not against some ancient Egyptian inspiration either. Dior adds intense shimmer around the eyes, while Dries Van Noten uses a thin gold band along the hair part.
Dramatic Ponytails
Forget the topknot club. Your ponytail definitely needs to amplify its game, so Haider Ackermann, Valentino, and Issey Miyake are here to give you strange wrapped styles, varied lengths, and choppy textured waves.
Flowers
This isn’t the old dandelion wreath you attempted to make in Kindergarten. Flowers as an accessory are returning with all the girlish charm of a daisy crown, but with the necessary sophistication for a grown woman.
Pageboy Wigs
Wigs have a bad reputation of being fake and silly, but how many of us are thinking about how great it would be if we can always change our hair? We forget that wigs give us more freedom, and it’s a good thing Fendi remembered.
