Nothing’s worse than that mid afternoon pang of hunger that interrupts your daily routine. While breaking out the potato chips can be tempting (and easy), chances are you’ll feel a lot better if you take the time to make something a little bit healthier. Healthy, however, doesn’t have to mean tasteless. There’s one super snack food that can be healthy and delicious: trail mix.
The best thing about your own personal trail mix is that you can throw whatever you want into it, so you’re guaranteed to love every bite. What to put in it you ask? The options are endless. The classic trail mix usually consists of peanuts, almonds, raisons and M&Ms. Your own trail mix, however, can consist of anything you’d like. Not an almond fan? Simply leave them out. If you love popcorn, mix up some nicely popped kernels, M&Ms and chocolate chips and you have a tasty chocolaty treat.
If you want to go really healthy, throw some seeds together in a bowl. Hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds etc. Go deliciously with anything from almonds to cashews. Dried fruit, granola, Cheerios, marshmallows and pretzels are all salty snacks that, when combined together, make for a perfectly delicious snack. So start experimenting and next time you’re hungry whip out you’re homemade, personalized trail mix. Even if you’re friends don’t love it, you know you will.
