Uma Thurman Models at Miu Miu’s 2019 Resort Show

As we enter into summer, it is customary for designers to now start rolling out their resort collections. This was the case for the Italian label Miu Miu. The show was held in Paris at the Regina Hotel, a major fixture in fashion history. The brand’s parent company, Prada, described the venue; saying “A hotel has mystery, intrigue, and stories.”

This season’s collection certainly reflects that, as it can certainly be eclectic; featuring a variety of different looks. One model could be seen walking down the catwalk in pajamas and slippers, and another fully decked out in a silky black gown and matching yellow purse. The brand, known for its more playful approach, certainly delivered when it came to interesting looks.

However, perhaps one of the most notable aspects of this show was the fact that Uma Thurman, of all people, was walking the runway.

Uma Thurman closed the fashion show, walking down the runway wearing a sequined-leopard print gown with a shiny green bodice, paired with an ultra-long navy blue trench coat. The 48-year-old actress reportedly ended to show by popping on a pair of yellow cat-eye sunglasses and waving to the crowd.

The surprise certainly comes as a surprise to those who have followed Thurman’s career, which she began as a model in the 1980s before beginning to work as an actress with 1988’s Dangerous Liaisons.

But Thurman was only one of many famous figures to grace the catwalk that day. In the beginning, Miuccia Prada had not planned to have any celebrities walk for the show. But within the two days leading up to the event, she and her team made a bunch of phone calls to the invited guests; asking if they would rather walk down the catwalk than sit on the sidelines.

The designer stated, “We called them in the morning, they jumped on the plane, and then they all arrived – they all said yes.”

Among those who also walked down the runway were Alexa Chung, Gwendoline Christie, and Chloe Sevigny.

Amid bright prints and well-known faces, it’s fair to say that this new collection is certainly turning heads.

Proud Latina Feminist. My likes include strong coffee, watching the previews that come on before the movie, and things that come in pretty packages. I've been a bibliophile and fashion lover since well before I could read or tie my own shoes.

Women older than 25 are rarely allowed to have a place in the modeling industry, so it’s great to see “older” women walking catwalks!
