‘Sexy’ is one word that comes to mind upon seeing Atelier Versace’s Fall 2016 Couture line.
However, this year’s sex appeal comes in a much more subtle variety than the fashion house usually produces. Though some of the line’s final looks were indeed glamorous, living up to Versace’s name, much of the collection exuded an effortless, rumpled but elegant vibe.
Draping was key in the collection, mostly replacing the opulent embroidery typical of the fashion house. All of this is clear from the line’s first look alone, which consisted of a deep wine-red bustier gown beneath a cinch-waist. A blush pink coat with mint green lapels hung off the model’s shoulder, haphazard and sensual.
Other looks consisted of simple dresses bedecked with bolts of silken fabric in many colors, crossing and falling across the body with grace. Colors included throughout the collection were mainly pastels such as lavender, blush pink, sky blue, pale beige and mint green. These fair shades were offset by the inclusion of crimson and black, giving a hint of mystery and sensuality.
The collection’s more opulent looks did indeed include sparkling embroidery, though its presence blended well with the more understated pieces.
One of the collection’s outstanding looks was a scarlet long-sleeved sheath dress worn by Bella Hadid. The dress’ clinging silhouette emphasized Hadid’s curves, and the flowing bolts of scarlet fabric fell over her body with grace, giving an air of sexiness and elegance to an otherwise demure gown.
