Donatella Versace has reinvented her Versus line with this new collection. Versus is the complementary collection to Versace that is easy to wear and more accessible to the public. Since the first collection Donatella and Anthony Vaccarello, who Donatella gave permanent stewardship of the brand after his contributions to the first, have been re-inventing the name of Versace.
With this ready-to-wear collection they have lowered the prices, not only make the collection wearable to reach a wider demographic.
Vaccarello introduced more day-wear then usually seen at Versace, like hoodies and mini-dresses, but the business and nightwear pieces are still a big part of the collection.
Of course they could not leave out the” rocker edge” usually found in the Verusu Versace line. With men pleated pants, women asymmetric-hemmed mini kilts, slouchy sweaters and unisex mohair scarves, there was a London rock vibe.
Vaccarello’s inspiration came from Britpop artist Brett Anderson and a flashback from the Bruce Weber Versus campaign with Kristen McMenamy.
The collection is dark and black with prints making there way onto denim skirts.Their own version of the chambray shirt can be found in the collection and a military design with webbing epaulettes.
Vaccarello’s pieces are similar to Donatella’s rock chic style put into all of her collection, but he makes sure to stand on his own and define his instantly wearable collection.
Vaccarello also plans a campaign partnership with Collier Schorr. Versace and Vaccarello’s next show will be at London fashion week in September.
