An exciting array of influences ranging from the sea and the waves to the Ming and the Qing dynasties, Vivienne Tam fails to disappoint the standards she set for herself when she started out. Her elegant twist on modern day geometric styles called for a thunderous ovation at this seasons Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Having the mood set by the dimming of the lights followed by an entrancing mix of house music, the scene seamlessly transitioned to the model walking the runway.
The inspiration was definitely felt in her pieces; vibrant hues of blue chased by exotic shades of coral and green made for a magnificent display giving a strong backing to the emergence of chinese designers and influence on the western world of fashion. Prints layered onto structured and modern silhouettes of mesh fabric, lace and cotton are bound to turn heads. After close examination, one can really pick up on the inspirations as the viewer gets lost in the landscapes and scenes depicted in the intricately designed fabrics.
The structure and design of the clothes are quite interesting as well. Futuristic methods and fabrics combined with a very feminine silhouette made for a very strong structured piece. You can tell that there was quite an influence from the 60’s and 70’s judging from the A-line dresses and the mini skirts. The geometric tops combined with the angular pants and shorts is a must have for any urban fashionista.
An incredible blend of several different eras of time combined onto a modern and robust platform, that will be found in every notable fashionistas wardrobe, Vivienne Tam will definitely not be going anywhere but to the top of the fashion food chain.
