Vivienne Westwood and Burberry Collaboration

In the fashion world, collaborations happen to be rather common. We’re quite used to seeing well-known designers/brands team up. However, no matter how common, there are some pairings which manage to generate excitement as well as produce something remarkable. One of the most recent, and perhaps most anticipated, collaborations to be announced is that of Vivienne Westwood and Burberry.

At first glance, this does seem like an unlikely combination. Vivienne Westwood is associated with the edgy world of punk aesthetics, while Burberry has historically conjured up the image of polished plaid and elegant trench coats. Yet, both brands are iconic staples of British fashion.

Burberry’s chief creative director, Ricardo Tisci, is actually quite excited for the partnership. In fact, according to him, it was Westwood that first inspired him to get into design. “Vivienne Westwood was one of the first designers who made me dream to become a designer myself, and when I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something,” said Tisci.

Tisci will be making his first debut during London Fashion Week in September, so this will be one of his first major projects as Burberry’s creative director. With the official release such a long time away, it is hard to speculate as to what is to come. Though, there are some clues. Both brands have a signature tartan pattern that is registered and trademarked with the official Scottish registry, and Westwood is famous for her use of environmentally friendly practices and materials.

So perhaps there is some hope for some sort of eco-friendly, plaid collection?

Whatever it is, if Tisci’s excitement is any indicator, it is sure to be great. The designer spoke more on his admiration of Westwood, saying “She is a rebel, a punk, and unrivaled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us. I am so incredibly proud of what we will be creating together.”

Proud Latina Feminist. My likes include strong coffee, watching the previews that come on before the movie, and things that come in pretty packages. I've been a bibliophile and fashion lover since well before I could read or tie my own shoes.
