Warm Up or Cool Down: Sleep Comfortably

Nothing is better than a good night’s sleep, so it can be frustrating when you can’t sleep through the night. According to Loma Linda University Medical Center, sleep is affected by temperature, so it may help to warm up or cool off. Here are some suggestions to find the best sleep temperature for you.

1. Check the temperature

According to Ralph Downey III, PhD, chief of sleep medicine at Loma Linda University, room temperature has an effect on how well you sleep through the night. You may be able to fall asleep in a hot or cold room, but if the temperature gets too extreme either way, you will wake up. The ideal room temperature is usually between 65 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit (between 18.3 and 22.2 degrees Celsius), but, of course, the most comfortable sleep temperature varies for each individual person. So if you keep the temperature out of this range and can’t seem to sleep comfortably, try raising or lowering the temperature.
