Would You Wear A Skirt Suit to Your Own Wedding?

There are two things that wedding guests always remember about your special day: the cake, and the dress. But what if there is no dress? What if instead you opted for a classy, vintage, label-less suit àla Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City? Or perhaps you would dare to bare a more risqué option (like seventies style icon Bianca Jagger chose to do when she married Rolling Stones frontman Mick in 1971)?

With TV shows like TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress revealing the myriad of emotions, unnerving apprehension, and literally hundreds of options soon-to-be-brides have at their fingertips, you can’t help but wonder how much simpler life would be if more women gave the wedding suit a try.

What it really all comes down to is the bride’s personal style—or how great the Disney princess movie genre was a part of her life. After all, this is the one dress many little girls have been dreaming about for years. Some women imagine the layered tulle, sweetheart neckline, all-out ball gown look. Others, like actual princesses Kate Middleton and Grace Kelly, went for timeless elegance in long sleeves and enough lace to start a small lingerie shop. But for those women that go against the grain of bridal trends, prefer classic silhouettes they know won’t make them cringe in thirty years, and feel most comfortable in a simple homage to vintage wedding fashion, the wedding suit may just be worth a second look.

Do you think you would ever consider a skirt suit for your wedding? Or is that option only really realistic for style icons and fictional fashionistas (like Jagger and Bradshaw, respectively)?
