Unfortunately for Potter fans, the Boy Who Lived will not be making a cameo in the new wizard franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The new magical movie is actually set way before Harry and his friends are born.
Daniel Radcliffe explained at Comic Con, “I feel that would be a very distracting thing so I’m not looking to pop up in them.” The actor was at Comic-Con to promote his new horror thriller Victor Frankenstein.
Last month it was announced that Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will star in the first Potter spin-off as the main character, Newt Scamander. Newt is described as a “magizoologist” who writes a Hogwarts school textbook about the creatures he encounters.
It must be a bittersweet moment for Radcliffe and the rest of the original Potter series cast, who finished wrapping the 8 movie series in 2011. “I’m excited to see them, especially with Eddie [Redmayne],” Radcliffe said. “He’s awesome. I think it’ll be fantastic. I’m intrigued to see what they’re going to do.”
Warner Brothers announced just yesterday that they will be holding an open casting call in London for the female lead in Fantastic Beasts.
“We are looking for a girl between the ages of 8-12 yrs for the role Modesty,” a notice on the studio’s website says. “Modesty is a haunted young girl with an inner strength and stillness. She has an ability to see deep into people and understand them.”
Good luck to all the girls auditioning for the role!
