E-Commerce is Rapidly Expanding in Kids’ Fashion

Nowadays, we see children everywhere holding iPhones bigger than their face, playing on games, texting their friends, or scrolling the web.

The e-commerce game is growing rapidly, with children and young teens exploring various social media sites and official fashion brand websites. It is easy having a smartphone, sales have been increasing with the help of kids logging onto their devices and asking their parents for all the latest fashion purchases.

As we grow up, it is hard to ignore each school year. As children slowly approach middle school, everyone wants to be part of the “cool kid scene”.

Although trends are different for people in their 20’s, children still have a love of fashion and what celebrity around their age is wearing. The pressure to fit in seems to be at a younger and younger age, which means that kids are prone to older kids styles. They start shopping at places that are catered towards an audience for teens like Forever 21, H&M and local boutiques.

Fashion is growing immensely and children have more variety in what they are choosing to wear. Even jokes on the Internet have been popping up, with memes of what 14-year-olds were wearing then versus what they are wearing now.

Because of the growing number of children looking at online retail sites, designers have decided to launch kids fashion. There is a women brand called Chemistry who decided they also wanted to specialize in girls clothing for ages 7-15 about two years ago. This method was used to test the expansion of their target market and it worked. Chemistry has officially been exclusive on Amazon since their new collection of kids clothing. Ever since, it has provoked Chemistry to build other e-commerce platforms such as Myntra and Jabong. They saw what they wanted and they went after it well.

Although not ever child is online, their parents are because they feel more comfortable shopping for their children when they know what their children are shopping for. Sometimes when a kid has the freedom to shop without their parent, they may make inappropriate clothing choices for the age that they are at. Chemistry, which is a Mumbai-based brand thought it would be smarter to start as an online retailer for younger age groups and the launch was effective. Girls especially want a bigger say in what they would like to wear, checking in with parents for their approval. Jeans with graphic detail and images are usually the most popular around girls.

Kids fashion has been extremely profitable for Amazon’s business, bettering the overall fashion industry. There is an even greater selection from Disney and comic book characters from The Avengers and Marvel.

It is extraordinary that the fashion industry is expanding due to the all ages designer wear that fashion heads are constructing for us. Not to mention that the children modeling high-end fashion brands are all so darn cute.
