Fashion on the Basketball Courts

Fashion steps it up a notch when NBA star Shea Rush decided to start making hats one day. It all started at postgame press conferences where Rush enjoyed seeing these certain hats on the spokespeople. Without any help, Rush went ahead and looked up how-to online and designed hats that seemed fashion forward to him. He was in high school when he went ahead and made his first batch of custom hats. It was Rush’s way of keeping his head clear before he went onto the basketball courts. Other NBA players have also joined the army of proud fashion designers. Clothing that the players have constructed include shoes, cropped pants, and bright colors. It has become a hobby for most.

Shea Rush’s teammates noticed that he was wearing one of his designs and asked him to make them for the whole team. This came as a surprise to Rush, given he did not think anyone would have cared. The hats that Rush was making matched the colors on his uniform. When his team asked him for one, Rush began the process of asking everyone their input. He went all out with the color, the size of the brim, what material they wanted, and if they preferred the hat to be distressed or not. Rush definitely knew that the hats would not run the same size so he took the time to measure heads and hair length.

Rush made about 24 by the end of his season and his teammates looked great. He even made hats for the folks on the entire roster and coaching staff. There were fedoras

and cowboy hats in the mix. Rush went on to say, “I used beaver fur for the hate, steam the hat – there are a lot of steps that go into it”. Rush’s hobby has turned into more, releasing him from his anxieties from basketball. It now has become a regular habit to produce the hats.

You will be able to see everyone sporting the hats at a Thursday dinner happening soon. Rush hopes that the players will start to wear their hats to every Friday game from now on. Some of the players have said that hats do not look good on them or they cannot pull them off, but they will wear Shea’s hats. They know how much dedication Shea put into the project so they are happy to support his creations.

The hats have ultimately become a confidence booster for the UNC team. It makes them feel united, which is a great asset when you are constantly working together on the courts.

Personally, I think it is awesome that Rush has a sense of style and creativity. I am glad he is able to show the public what he likes to do when he is not playing basketball. Sometimes, I feel like society sees them as just a basketball player and that is it. It takes an edge off from the pressure of trying to win. The way his teammates support him is amazing to see, especially since it shows how loyal the players are with each other.

Bold statements are different. You do not normally see star athletes wearing something that is out of the box. They came together with the same accessory on and it looks fantastic. Players have made jokes about the hats looking like they are mafia hats, which gives them an essence of a pact. They look happy and enjoyable, living in the moment and accepting new ideas that you can see through these distinct hats. Teamwork goes a long way, on and off the courts.
