Stylish & Trendy Spot: Bodega Negra is a Diamond in the Rough

New York City’s Chelsea district holds dozens of trendy hot spot restaurants and pricy bars, so it’s almost impossible to filter out the ones worth trying and the ones worth ditching. Yet, Bodega Negra in the Dream hotel is definitely one worth trying. This trendy Mexican spot has both a dark, booming dining and lounge area, as well as an airy café seating area open throughout the day with a similar menu.

For those who dread the dark, loud lounge scene, the café area is a great choice for brunch, lunch and dinner. The menu boasts a variety of delicious Mexican options including classic – and delicious – guacamole with chips, various ceviche dishes, and to-die-for taco options. The chorizo and potato tacos and shrimp tacos were drool-worthy. The menu also has heavier main courses, as well as a wide variety of quesadillas. If you’re dining in the lounge area, the bar is stocked with over 30 tequila options, margaritas, Mexican-inspired cocktails, wine and champagne.

But don’t forget to save room for dessert. The Don Huevo dessert will likely be the most delicious thing you have ever had and will ever have. Trust us, we’re not overselling it. It is a huge white chocolate ball with a molten chocolate cake and ice cream in the middle. The waiter pours hot caramel over the ball to make it melt and fall open. The mix of melted white chocolate, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon tastes is enough to make anyone water at the mouth and pine for more. Without this dessert, this Mexican-inspired cuisine might just fall through the cracks, but trust us, it’s worth trying, even if you only go for the dessert!
