Rihanna Hosts Diamond Ball to Benefit Charity

Singer Rihanna will host another Diamond Ball this year, according to Bazaar. This year’s event will be the third, following a hiatus in 2016. The first two Diamond Balls were in 2014 and 2015. The party benefits the Clara Lionel Foundation, which is Rihanna’s own charitable organization.

The Clara Lionel Foundation helps provide education for the underprivileged, Bazaar reported. In 2015, the Diamond Ball brought in more than $3 million for the charitable organization.

Rihanna hosted the previous Diamond Ball parties in Beverly Hills and in Santa Monica. This time, though, she’s taking it over to the other side of the country and having the party in New York.

Rihanna recently took the title of Humanitarian of the Year, a designation that came from Harvard University. She also recently showed her fall/winter 2017 collaboration collection with Fenty X Puma during Paris Fashion Week. The collection features a combination of sporty, athleisure and a touch of teenage rebellion amid bright colors and 90s-recalling crop tops.

The singer said that she is thrilled to be having the event in New York because it sets the right scene. The gala will be Sept. 14, held at Cipriani Wall Street. It will serve the dual purposes, Rihanna said, of celebrating the Clara Lionel Foundation and increasing the organization’s visibility so that the world can see its vision.

Entertainment in the past included singers and speakers. Lionel Richie and Rihanna have both performed in previous years, and speakers included Kevin Hart and Brad Pitt.

Also benefitting Clara Lionel are a part of the sales of a Dior t-shirt that debuted on the runway for the fall 2017 season. The shirt, at face value appearing to be a simple tee, costs $710. People had questioned whether proceeds on a shirt that reads “We should all be feminists” would go to benefit women, and Rihanna’s charity was part of Dior’s answer.

In addition to the Clara Lionel organization, Rihanna has started a few scholarship programs as another part of her quest to promote education.

I'm a lover of words in all forms, sweatshirts in all conditions, and God in all circumstances. I particularly enjoy working collaboratively on the written word and wearing microfiber robes (preferably at the same time). Most of the time I don't get enough sleep, but I make a valiant effort.
