Royal Millenial Style at Dolce & Gabbana Milan Fashion Week

The Dolce & Gabbana fall/winter 2017 women’s collection showed Feb. 26, mixing themes of royalty with millennial culture.

Instead of sticking exclusively to womenswear, the collection included ensembles for the entire family and interspersed a few men’s suits into the mix, as well as a few children’s designs. The opening items were a family set of furs and animal prints; a menswear robe and two kids’s outfits with a cat print, and a women’s leopard coat trimmed in black fur.

The clothing focused on an interplay of luxury and the casual, with embellishments and designs resembling royal and military guard traditions. Models wore crowns and glittering trims, giant furs and flowered dresses with plenty of gold shine in the weave. There were denim patchwork jeans, a crown worn with a bustier-bodiced dress and sneakers, a green velvet three-piece suit, and a dress with a pattern resembling Faberge eggs.

The collection ventured into a kind of royal shabby chic style as well, getting playful at times. One oversize leopard print vest had matching slippers and mittens, complete with a stuffed animal leopard head hood (no worries animal lovers, it was faux).

One model wore a sheer black dress with lacy flowers and a white lace collar over a bodysuit. Another sported a sparkly jacket with fringed epaulets and gold trim, reminiscent of a royal guard uniform, combined with pants covered in a patchwork of notes and embellishments. A giant puffer coat had patches and prints in a jumble of graphics that resembled an arts and crafts show.

Not just millennial in eclectic style, but in casting, the brand cast internet stars, influencers, and celebrities as models, The Cut reported. Amanda and Jason Harvey opened the show, Austin Mahone sang from the runway throughout the show. Among the other stars and famous names who appeared were Aimee Song, Jennifer Tilly, Gabriel Kane Day Lewis, and Madison Beer.

The show is available to watch at the Dolce & Gabbana site.

I'm a lover of words in all forms, sweatshirts in all conditions, and God in all circumstances. I particularly enjoy working collaboratively on the written word and wearing microfiber robes (preferably at the same time). Most of the time I don't get enough sleep, but I make a valiant effort.
