Tel Aviv Fashion Week Fall

We all know how big fashion month is, tuning in to see the latest fashion pieces come in from glorified high-end designers. Not to mention, famous and well-known celebrities strutting down the runway, inviting us to indulge in the latest attire. Fashion Week, also planned in Tel Aviv, have shown society how different and creatively cultures can come together and show off their wonderful talent.

However, Tel Aviv’s annual Gindi TLV fashion week was in for a messy situation this year. Usually a five to seven day event happens in a major city that represents the very essence of fashion. Tel Aviv, unfortunately, only had about three days to formulate their show. They lost recognised names and the crowd was unimpressed, throwing the experience off. The designers that were presented were not lost in the sea of people there though, such as the swimsuit company Gottex and the tag team duo of Gideon and Keren Oberson. Newer and striving-and-thriving designers were not on the list, disappointing some eager awaiting fans. This is not all to be blamed on the fashion week producer Motty Reif who worked each day to make sure fashion week was newsworthy, but one of the young designers made a comment about the show being boring and lacking the zest appeal fashion week in New York and Paris had. It is not easy to be mad at Reif when events like fashion week happen because you will never know what will come of it. The young designer also went on to say, “It doesn’t feel like Fashion Week does anything practical for the designers’ themselves”. Reif worked hard to get the event up-and-coming, but certain things have a way of not working out.

Rumours were surfacing about disagreements about where Fashion week was supposed to be taking place. It was going to be held in a new, opening mall called Gindi TLV Fashion Mall on Hashmonaim Street. There was a confusion over if Fashion Week was going to be a surprise when they do open the mall. There also were instances where Reif continually stalled the Fashion Week show, and people were getting bored waiting for it to finally start.

The show opened on Tuesday morning of March 12th with Yosef Peretz’s line to take the runway first. He delivered a new and improved collection, models wearing casual white linen, which was different than what he usually makes. Peretz’s is noted for his more traditional approach of silk, crepe, and organza wear. During his interview for Xnet, Peretz mentioned that this style was contrasting with his normal routine because he had been going through a transformation period for three years. This was the result he wished to see and so he crated it and built up a new image of himself. Even with his new selection of design, the crowd seemed unmoved by his thought out work, only clapping for one swimsuit piece with an edgy hoodie.

Another swimsuit collection emerged, Gottex, who Lea Gottlieb founded, went for an exclusive way and brought out 75 models wearing bathing suits who have worked for her for decades. Various other designers have also been coming out with that idea, but it still makes the runway an interesting place to be. Fashion Week is for designers to display what they think will be trending in the next year and who will be buying their stuff. An all age range reach is a great way to market business in the fashion world.

"I am a ship and I promise I will make it to the shores alive".Hello! My name is Serena Anthony, currently residing here in Chicago, IL, recently come from a five year stay in Malaysia. I am a Fashion Business major at Columbia College with a passion for incorporating writing and fashion together, which is awesome given that those are two of my favourite things. Especially after great sushi and a killer moshe cristo.Columbia is giving me the benefit of creatively getting a handle on my goals. Because I love art, more so when I get into a frenzy, this college is a mix of serious and enjoyable experiences. I hope to keep my future like that as well!
